When you plug the USB dongle into your pc it should install the drivers. Start clone hero, use the arrow keys to choose/change settings and you should be either able to choose the Ps3 controller or remap the buttons for your guitar. The following table maps the various system controllers to the guitar controller for those that want to play without a guitar. The Wii remote needs to be held sideways. You should shake the wii remote up and down for a better whammy effect. When using the guitar controller, and are normally used for Confirm/Cancel.
To do this, you must first power on the PlayStation 3 console and then press the “PS” button on the bottom edge of the controller. You can also do this with the “Rock Band” guitar controller. The PS3 guitar controller has a tiny wireless button near the amp plug. Press and hold this button for two seconds.
(In the video they are using a normal Guitar Hero guitar for demonstration, but the same process applies to the Guitar Hero Live controller). Things you'll need: Guitar Hero Live controller (not necessary, but highly recommended of course) Note: You WILL NEED the XBOX 360 dongle in order for this to work!

You can add all the songs from the old gh games into it. Xbox controllers require licensing for the wireless. So not easy to make now. I’ve found plenty of guitar hero guitars for Xbox and Wii for pretty reasonable price, about $30-40 it’s the adapters that seem so expensive.
